ABERDEEN – No one could match West Central in the first season of Class A softball.
The Trojans completed a perfect season with a Caitlyn Hoff four-hit shutout Saturday in a 4-0 win over Tea Area in the SDHSAA Class A Softball Championship at Players Softball Complex.
Hoff struck out nine for West Central (22-0).
Kaylee Olson brought in the first Trojan run on a second-inning squeeze bunt. Jocelyn Nilson doubled the lead with an RBI double in the fourth. Emillee Stofferahn homered for the last two runs in the sixth.
Nevaeh Berg had two of the four hits for Tea Area (12-6).
3rd Place – Dell Rapids 7, Dakota Valley 5
Clarie Wynja doubled, tripled, singled twice and drove in two as Dell Rapids (13-2) held on for the win. Dakota Valley (17-10) scored three in the seventh, but ended the game with the tying run at the plate. Emma Wiese drove in two for the Panthers.
5th Place – Madison 11, Elk Point-Jefferson 0
Amanda Vacanti pitched a five-inning no-hitter for the Bulldogs (17-4), who took advantage of seven walks by Elk Point-Jefferson (11-9).
7th Place – Beresford 10, Lennox 5
Beresford (10-12) scored four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull away. Halle Livingston and Ivy Keiser each drove in two runs for the Watchdogs. Macy Wallenstein had three hits and an RBI for Lennox (5-10).
