INDIANAPOLIS – Three members of the Pierre Youth Bowling Association participated last week in the Junior Gold National Scholarship Tournament with some pretty impressive results.
Junior Gold is the largest and most difficult youth tournament in the country, featuring competitors from all through the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and U.S. military bases from around the world.
In the U15 division, out of 700 boys, Gavin Colson finished 297th overall in qualifying rounds. Also, out of 326 girls in U15, Courtney Potter placed 97th and Emily Kringel made it through qualifying rounds, placing 5th overall. The top 16 qualifiers in each division move on to match play rounds, but Kringel lost two hard fought matches to end a brilliant run in the tournament.
In all, over 3,000 youth bowlers, including 26 from South Dakota, competed in four age divisions, hoping for scholarship money and to earn spots on Junior Team USA squads. Next year’s tournament will be held in Detroit.
