VERMILLION – After winning big in the All Nations Class B championship last year, Lower Brule just got by with a win over Tiospa Zina in the regular season rematch in August. Saturday, the Sioux and Wambdi had a title game rematch, and Lower Brule again won with relative ease.
Lane Gray had three touchdown passes as Lower Brule repeated as state champion with a 42-0 win over Tiospa Zina at the DakotaDome.
Cory Big Eagle scored late in the second quarter to give Lower Brule (8-1) a 6-0 lead.
After a Gray interception, he threw a five-yard scoring pass to Marley Carpenter with four seconds left in the first half and Lower Brule led 14-0 at halftime.
With just over seven minutes left in the third quarter, Javier Dominguez fumbled for Tiospa Zina (7-2). Isaiah Felicia forced the fumble and Elliot LaRoche recovered and ran in a five-yard score for a 22-0 lead for the Sioux.
William Fire Cloud had an interception to end the next possession for the Wambdi, setting a 49-yard Gray touchdown pass to Quentin McBride.
Felicia had a touchdown run and Gray had a 23-yard scoring pass to Carpenter before the end of the third quarter.
Gray passed for 214 yards and was named as the offensive Most Valuable Player. Big Eagle rushed for 114 yards. Carpenter had 101 yards receiving.
