The Fort Pierre City Council is considering some utility rate increases for next year (2024), but how much of an increase is still being penciled out.
Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says currently there’s no fee increase needed for water, but a surcharge will likely need to be implemented to help fund a permanent solution for the town’s water source.
Heezen says the sewer rate will need to go up.
As for the electric utility rate, Heezen says they’re waiting to see the results of a rate study that’s being done.
Fort Pierre’s most recent utility rate study was completed in 2014.
Heezen says the electric utility rate study costs about $19-thousand, but Missouri River Energy Services will pay for half of it. She says the city has it’s $9500 share budgeted for next year.
