The 2024 election is 11 months away and the prep for that election is underway in county Auditor Offices across the South Dakota.
Last month, Hughes County Finance Officer Thomas Oliva told the Hughes County Commission that nationwide threats against the election process have already been happening.
Oliva says candidate petitions will start to arrive in his office in January.
While he hope to never have to use it, Oliva says he wants to be proactive by having the NARCAN available in his office.
At this point, no election office in South Dakota has received hazardous material in the mail.
