The Walworth County Commissioners held their first meeting of new year on Thursday, January 4th. Jim Houck was elected Chairman and Justin Jungwirth Vice Chairman.
Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen introduced Allisson Keyes with NECOG, who talked to the commissioners about the process of putting together a pre disaster mitigation plan.
Planning meetings that will include public input on the plan will be coming soon.
Also at the commission meeting:
A 2023 Contingency Transfer of $16,500 to cover insurance and the audit report was approved.
A motion to set the per diem rates following the state’s rates was approved.
The commission passed a motion to publish the complete list of Walworth County salaries, effective January 1, 2024, and they approved the hourly rates for 2024 election officials.
The commissioners approved the Mobridge Tribune and Selby Record to be the official newspapers for the county, and BankWest as the official depository.
Board appointments will be approved after the commissioners have a chance to look over the current list of names.
2024 Landfill rates will be published as they are, with the commission to look at raising the rates for 2025 sometime this summer.
Indigent burial rates were approved at $2500, and $150 for funeral director’s fees.
Sheriff Josh Boll presented the Brown County contracts for the Chairman to sign. The Brown County adult jail contract rate is now $100 per day, and the juvenile detention center rate increased from $285 to $350 per day.
Highway equipment rates for 2024 were tabled to the next meeting to give all commissioners time to look into the rate changes.
The commission approved a banking resolution to add Deputy Auditor JoAnn Nehls to the bank accounts.
The next Walworth County Commission meeting will be Tuesday, January 23rd, at 9:00am.
