United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced today that Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange, U.S. District Court, has sentenced a Lower Brule, South Dakota, man convicted of Escape from Custody. The sentencing took place on January 3, 2024.
Dillon Bagola, age 31, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100. Once released from custody he will have to serve five years of supervised release relating to his prior federal sexual assault conviction.
Bagola was indicted by a federal grand jury in August of 2023. He pleaded guilty on October 2, 2023.
The conviction stemmed from an incident on July 25, 2023, when Bagola, who was residing at the Community Alternatives of the Black Hills, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to finish a federal sentence, escaped from that facility. His whereabouts were unknown until he was apprehended on August 4, 2023, in Lower Brule.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted the case.
Bagola was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
