The Mobridge City Council had a meeting Wednesday, February 7th, at City Hall.
Public Forum
Allison Kiesz of NECOG (Northeast Council of Governments) talked to the council about the work being done to update the pre-disaster mitigation plan.
Ted Dickey, also from NECOG, was present for the public hearing on the wastewater project, and talked about what he called a “worst case scenario” in acquiring a loan for the $8 million dollar project. Dickey told the council that Mobridge residents could see a sizeable increase in rates.
Jerod Klambunde of Moore Engineering discussed the wastewater project, and then the council approved the agreement with Moore Engineering for miscellaneous tasks and/or projects.
Also during Public Forum, Jack Shillingstad told the council that planning and zoning and code enforcement are two of the major problems the City of Mobridge has.
Water/Wastewater
Water/Wastewater Superintendent Kurt Schmaltz, speaking on behalf of the City departments, asked for and received the council’s approval to purchase lift equipment to reach lights, roofs, and higher places without using ladders. Cost for the equipment is $18,813.00.
Police
For the Police Department, the council approved the hiring of Jamison Ries as a police officer, and it was noted that the police department had received grant money for the purchase of bullet-proof vests. Council also approved the purchase of two 2022 Dodge Durango vehicles for the police department at a cost of $70, 350.00.
New Business
Public hearings were held and temporary liquor licenses were approved for the Mobridge Regional Healthcare Foundation’s upcoming Great Gatsby Gala on April 13th, and the Mobridge Chamber’s Cornhole Tournament and I Hate Winter Party on March 23rd.
The council approved Resolution 24-03, which approves the issue and sale of revenue bonds for the water system project. Mobridge Finance Officer Heather Beck –
An agreement with Kohlman Biersbach and Anderson to do the City’s 2023 audit in May was approved. It will cost $23, 300.00.
The council approved hiring Mike Nehls as part-time Code Enforcement Officer. On the subject of code enforcement, Mobridge Mayor Gene Cox had a reminder for the council.
