The value of South Dakota’s 2023 field and miscellaneous crops is forecast at $8.29 billion, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is down 6% from 2022.
The value of corn production is expected to total $3.84 billion, down 11% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s corn price is projected to average $4.50 per bushel, down $2.00 from the last marketing year.
The value of soybean production is expected to total $2.77 billion, up 2% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s soybean price is projected to average $12.40 per bushel, down
$1.70 from the last marketing year.
The value of winter wheat production is expected to total $248 million, down 25% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s winter wheat price is projected to average $7.55 per bushel, down $1.12 from the last marketing year.
The value of other spring wheat production is expected to total $198 million, down 33% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s other spring wheat price is projected to average $7.10 per bushel, down $1.61 from the last marketing year.
The value of alfalfa production is expected to total $659 million, up 26% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s alfalfa price is projected to average $166.00 per ton, down $19.00 from the last marketing year. The value of other hay production is expected to total $284 million, up 30% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s other hay price is projected to average $132.00 per ton, up $3.00 from the last marketing year.
