A wintry weather forecast has prompted the leadership of the South Dakota Legislature to revise the schedule for the legislative body’s 2024 Veto Day. Originally slated for Monday, March 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. (CT), the final day of the 2024 session will now be Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. (CT).
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for central, north central, and northeast South Dakota from Saturday evening through late Monday night. Winds could gust as high as fifty-five miles per hour with total snow accumulations of more than a foot possible in some areas.
Veto Day is reserved for consideration of gubernatorial vetoes. While the Governor did not veto any bills during the 2024 Legislative Session, the South Dakota Senate and the House of Representatives must meet to conclude their business and adjourn sine die, officially ending this year’s session.
Legislative and interim committee meetings scheduled for Monday have also been rescheduled for Tuesday. The following committees will meet on March 26, 2024:
- Joint Committee on Appropriations – 10:00 a.m.
- Executive Board – 30 minutes following adjournment of both chambers
- One Hundredth Session Planning Committee – 1:30 p.m. or 15 minutes following adjournment of both chambers
Further scheduling information will be made available on the Legislative Research Council website at https://sdlegislature.gov/.
