South Dakota corn stocks in all positions on March 1, 2024, totaled 502 million bushels, up 23% from 2023, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 335 million bushels are stored on farms, up 31% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 167 million bushels, are up 8% from last year.
Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 110 million bushels, up 48% from last year. On-farm stocks of 54.0 million bushels are up 93% from a year ago, and off-farm stocks, at 55.8 million bushels, are up 21% from 2023.
All wheat stored in all positions totaled 36.7 million bushels, up slightly from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 17.5 million bushels are up 6% from 2023, but off-farm stocks of 19.2 million bushels are down 5% from last year.
Sorghum off-farm stocks totaled 3.58 million bushels, down 12% from March 2023.
Oats stored in all positions totaled 4.61 million bushels, up 24% from last year. On-farm stocks of 3.45 million bushels are up 25% from 2023. Off-farm stocks of 1.16 million bushels are up 21% from last year.
Barley stored in all positions totaled 223,000 bushels, up 40% from last year. On-farm stocks of 190,000 bushels are up 27% from a year ago, and off-farm stocks, at 33,000 bushels, are up 267% from 2023.
