The Mobridge City Council had a visitor at their meeting on Wednesday, April 10th. Standing Rock Chairwoman Janet Alkire had contacted Mobridge Mayor Gene Cox to thank the City for sending fire trucks to a fire at a rural Kenel residence. Mayor Cox then attended a Standing Rock Tribal meeting, and Alkire reciprocated by coming to the Mobridge City Council meeting.
Billie Jo Beheler, representing the International Indian Treaty Council, talked to the Council about the upcoming 50th Anniversary Treaty Conference in June.
Beheler also invited youth to attend as there will be youth panels and a youth council convening as well.
Also at Wednesday’s council meeting:
Council approved the purchase of a 2019 pickup instead of the Durango for the Police Department.
For the Street Department, Council approved replacement of a garage door at the street barn at a cost of $12,766.58. This is a budgeted item.
For the Fire Department, wildland fire employees and pay were approved, with loaded wages to be reimbursed to the City. Austin Stover was also approved to the volunteer firefighter roster.
Public hearing was held and approval given for the transfer of a liquor license for the Windjammer, which excludes the Chuckwagon Restaurant on the 2nd floor. The restaurant will apply for a separate license.
Cemetery deeds were all approved with one motion.
Resolution 24-03 to waive a curb and gutter requirement at the request of Jake Selzler was approved.
Council approved moving the May meeting to Tuesday, May 7th, due to the travel obligations of Mayor Cox.
