Rapid City Central High School activities director Jordan Bauer announced Thursday, June 6th, that Pat Moriarty has resigned as head track coach for Rapid City Central, and Jacqee Schaefer will take over as the next head track and field coach for the Cobblers.
“We are extremely grateful for the commitment and dedication Coach Moriarty has had to the Cobbler track and field program,” Bauer stated. “He has gone above and beyond to develop a positive culture shift within the Cobbler track and field program.” “We want to thank Coach Moriarty for his leadership, his attention to relationship building, and his complete buy-in to what we are working towards within Cobblers Athletics. We wish him the best of luck in the future,” stated Bauer.
Moriarty has been the head track coach for the Cobblers for the last 4 years and was a head and assistant for 15 years prior to that at both the “AA” and “A” levels. Under Moriarty’s guidance, the Cobblers doubled the participation numbers and have brought home several individual and relay team state champions and sent numerous
kids on to compete in track and field at the collegiate level.
“It’s been an honor to coach at Rapid City Central. The last 4 years I’ve been fortunate to get the opportunity to work with some of the best athletes in the state as well as many awesome individuals. I have such great memories of our times together during track season. I’m looking forward to making more memories in the future, but as a fan
instead of as a coach. Central Track and Field has a tradition of competing at a high level and preparing athletes for the collegiate level. For the past 4 years, it’s been exciting to see the number of our athletes who have continued to the next level and found a passion for the sport. I would like to thank Central administration and AD Bauer, along with all the great staff and students at Central, for giving me the opportunity to lead the Cobbler program and believing in what our coaches were doing. I’m excited to see what the future holds for our track team and athletes at Central,” added Moriarty.
“We are extremely excited to have Coach Schaefer taking over our track and field program. Her knowledge, leadership skills, and ability to build relationships with student-athletes will be true assets to our program, Cobbler Athletics, and the community of Rapid City. Coach Schaefer places high values on strength and conditioning, speed, and
agility with her athletes. We are looking forward to Coach Schaefer guiding our Cobbler track and field program,” Bauer stated.
Coach Schaefer’s extensive background of 9 years of coaching experience includes coaching at varsity levels in track and field, cross country, basketball, and soccer. She has a strong track record of developing athlete strength, speed, conditioning, and running technique while fostering a positive environment. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes work ethic, dedication, and competitiveness, aligning perfectly with Rapid City Central’s values and goals for it’s athletes.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Activities Director, Jordan Bauer, for this exciting opportunity to continue leading the Cobbler track and field program in a positive direction. Being a Cobbler track athlete myself at one point, I am honored to lead this team and build on the strong foundation laid by my predecessors, Pat Moriarty, and Dave Dolan. I am eager to continue to collaborate with the current coaching staff and leverage their collective expertise to enhance the program further. Together, we will strive to nurture our athletes’ talents and guide them to achieve their personal and team goals. I aim to continue the tradition of success that has long been associated with the Cobbler program. Track and field has always been my passion, and I am excited to instill that same enthusiasm and commitment in our athletes. I look forward to seeing our team grow, compete, and thrive in the seasons to come.”
“We are very fortunate to have such a great candidate right here in our building, not to mention a Cobbler alumnus! Coaching high school kids is not just about coaching and teaching fundamentals. It is more importantly about building relationships, holding student-athletes and coaches accountable, and raising expectations to create a winning culture. I have no doubt Coach Schaefer will continue to build upon the foundation Coach Moriarty laid and will work harder than anyone at making our Cobbler Track team a consistent, championship-caliber program,” concluded Bauer.
