After having a summer filled with reading programs and activities, the Rawlins Municipal Library in Pierre will be closed next week (Sept. 9-13, 2024) for remodeling.
Despite the closure, Library Director Abby Edwardson says they will continue to offer assistance to patrons over the phone. She says they will also continue offering reserves and interlibrary loans for pickup, and the Libby and Hoopla applications for ebooks and audiobooks.
This summer, Edwardson says nearly 2,000 kids from the Pierre and Fort Pierre area participated in their reading program, collectively reading more than 9,800 books. She says research tells us that kids who read all summer long have an easier transition when they head back to the classroom in the fall.
While the staff enjoys working with the kids, Edwardson says Rawlins Library offers options for adults as well– one of which is book club kits.
Edwardson says they also have computers for library patrons to use.
Edwardson says the resources offered by Rawlins Library go beyond books and computers.
Later this month (Sept. 21, 2024, from 9:30am-noon), Edwardson says Rawlins will host a Fall Festival that will include games for kids, free popcorn and a bake sale. The event is open to the public.
