The Pierre Governors played well in two home games over the weekend against quality opponents, but still came up short in both to drop to 4-8 on their basketball season. Friday the Governors hosted Harrisburg and played a very competitive game, but a 14-0 run at the tail end of the third quarter propelled the Tigers to a 66-48 win to improve to 10-2. Luke Olson led all scorers with 21 in the loss for the Governors who came close on Saturday, but again couldn’t quite get over the hump. The Govs dropped a 67-63 decision to the O’Gorman Knights in their second game of the weekend in a game that went all the way down to the wire. Pierre led by four after one quarter, but were outscored in the second, 13-6, to trail 28-25 at halftime. They were able to regain the lead in a seesaw third quarter, but went to the fourth down by two. O’Gorman built a 10-point lead at 57-47 before a Governor rally got them back within two late, but a pair of free throws with one second remaining contributed to the final four-point margin of victory for the Knights. Dawson Getz rained in seven 3-pointers for the second time in four games to lead all scorers with 23 points while Olson added 19 in the loss. Pierre heads to Yankton to battle the Bucks in their next contest Tuesday night. Coverage from the Summit Center will begin with the pregame at 6:30 on RIVER 92-7 FM with the live video stream available at https://drgnews.com/river.
