Thursday night saw the Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers basketball team travel south to Fort Pierre for a makeup game from earlier in the week against Stanley County, and trounced the Lady Buffaloes 67-25. Throughout the season, the Lady Tigers have made a name for themselves in part because of their total destruction of many teams on their schedule. Twice this year they have set new school records for points scored in a single game, and have beat up on some of the lower teams in massive blowouts. The beginning to Thursday’s game looked as if Mobridge-Pollock would outdo themselves again, as they led at the end of the first quarter 38-5.
It was 5-5 a couple minutes in, before a 10-0 run put the Lady Tigers ahead 15-5 less than midway through the quarter. Rather than using the full court press right away, they waited until a few possessions into the game before putting the clamps on and creating mayhem. Stanley County had no answer for it, as several consecutive turnovers in the back court led to an onslaught of early offense for Mobridge-Pollock and ended the game nearly as soon as it started.
Junior Jacy Netterville had several steals in that quarter alone, and would score 10 points by the half, which by then the team led 52-17. All it took was her third three-pointer of the night early in the second half to set a new career-high scoring mark of 13. Netterville was our player of the game, in what might have been her best effort of the season so far. In addition to the steals, she buried open shots and was threading the ball to open teammates, often deep down the floor. Leading the game in scoring for Stanley County was freshman Addy Deal, who had nine points.
The 35-point win for Mobridge-Pollock was their fifth straight victory, and improves them to 16-2 this season. It also continues a disappointing stretch for the Lady Buffaloes, who are now 2-17. Mobridge-Pollock goes back on the road Friday night, with a tilt against Winner. The Warriors have won the last three meetings, our coverage begins at 6 p.m. for the final game of the regular season.
