The value of South Dakota’s 2024 field and miscellaneous crops is forecast at $7.13 billion, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is down 11% from 2023.
The value of corn production is expected to total $3.62 billion, down 1% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s corn price is projected to average $4.10 per bushel, down $0.19 from the last marketing year.
The value of soybean production is expected to total $2.26 billion, down 16% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s soybean price is projected to average $9.75 per bushel, down $2.25 from the last marketing year.
The value of winter wheat production is expected to total $249 million, up 17% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s winter wheat price is projected to average $5.20 per bushel, down $1.53 from the last marketing year.
The value of other spring wheat production is expected to total $170 million, down 11% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s other spring wheat price is projected to average $5.45 per bushel, down $1.37 from the last marketing year.
The value of alfalfa production is expected to total $397 million, down 38% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s alfalfa price is projected to average $114.00 per ton, down $48.00 from the last marketing year. The value of other hay production is expected to total $222 million, down 21% from the previous marketing year. South Dakota’s other hay price is projected to average $94.00 per ton, down $37.00 from the last marketing year.
