In the final regular season game in all of single-A boys basketball, Mobridge-Pollock defeated Todd County at home Saturday afternoon 77-59. It snapped the Tigers four-game losing streak, and improves them to 12-8 heading into the postseason. They breezed to an 8-0 run to start the game against the Falcons, taking a 10-point lead into the second quarter. Defense was big early in the game, as Mobridge-Pollock held a Todd County team that averages nearly 60 points a game to just 16 in the first half.
Defense was harder to come by in the second half, as the teams combined for 47 points in the third quarter alone. Mobridge-Pollock led comfortably the rest of the way regardless, and were able to go deep into their bench. All five Tigers starters reached double figures, sophomore Kale Knudson led the game in scoring with a season-high 19 points. Senior Shane Henderson scored 17, with the help of five trips to the free throw line in the first half. Todd County had no answer for his size, as he dominated the glass on both ends and even added a two-handed dunk for good measure.
The page turns now to next week’s regional tournament, which will have Mobridge-Pollock seeded third in 6A. They will take on Chamberlain in the quarterfinal on Tuesday in Mobridge, in a rematch of a Tigers 72-43 blowout of the Cubs back in January.
