A balanced scoring attack propelled Lyman to a SoDak 16 win Thursday night and a return trip to the State B next weekend. Mac Scott scored 17 points and Brooke Palmer 15 to help the Raiders to a 56-44 win over Lemmon. Those two have been the consistent leaders all season, but 16 points from Bree Smart, who averages about seven a game, turned out to be the big difference in the Lyman win. With Lemmon leading 9-5 early, Smart rained in a pair of 3-pointers that seemed to help the Raiders settle in offensively. A 12-4 run to close out the first period gave Lyman a 17-13 lead, which they extended to 31-23 at halftime. The Cowgirls started strong again in the second half, cutting the deficit down to one at 33-32, but the Lyman defense held Lemmon scoreless for the rest of the third quarter as the offense scored the last 11 points of the stanza to lead, 44-32. Lemmon couldn’t get any closer than a nine-point margin the rest of the way. Jordyn Kohn’s 14 points led the Cowgirls while Madison Dauwen added 11 as the sophomore-dominated team ends the season with a 16-7 mark. Lyman (19-3) will head to their fifth State Tournament and their second in a row. They will take on Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in the final game of the tournament’s first round Thursday at the Huron Arena.
