In blistering heat out at the Stanley County Fairgrounds, the third day of the High School State Rodeo Finals got underway around 9:30 am and the cowboys and cowgirls got back to work trying to qualify for the National Finals. It was a great day for Central South Dakota competitors as we saw some familiar names make their way towards the top of the leaderboard.
Talon Ping of Highmore certainly impressed as he moved his way to the top of the leaderboard in bareback riding with a 1st GO score of 64.00 bringing his total to 43.00, just one point ahead of Taos Weborg from Gregory who sits at 42.00 total points after an impressive run yesterday. Talon also still sits in fifth on the bull riding leaderboard with his season point total holding at 19.00 after almost all zeros were posted by other competitors yesterday.

Pierreās Gabriyelle Irving currently sits fourth in barrel racing after posting a time of 15.884 and earing 14.000 points for the run. Makenzee Wheelhouse of Pierre had a great day of goat tying and currently sits second with 42.00 total points after posting a time of 6.910 and earning 13.00 points (42.00 total points). Wheelhouse also sits in 10th place on the barrel racing leaderboard with 27.00 total points while also holding the 13th spot in pole bending.
Ryen Sheppick of Pierre has already qualified for Nationals in a few categories, but sits in a tie for first with Kate Schiley in girls cutting as both have a total score of 79.00. Sheppick also finds herself at the top of the reigned cow horse competition with 90.00 total points, well ahead of the rest of the field.
The first rodeo performance of the day will get underway at 9 AM CT with the second performance beginning tonight at 5 PM. Stay hydrated as the temps are expected to get well over 100 degrees. To see the full list of results, you can click here
