The Buffaloes and Wolverines kicked off the 2026 stretch of the season in Fort Pierre with a girls and boys doubleheader, and both schools saw great offensive performances as they split both games.
The Lady Wolverines started the evening with a 65-23 victory in game one, seeing huge numbers from some of their key players. Jordyn Rossow owned the night as she dominated the paint scoring 25 points. Stanley County fell behind early, but did not fold which has been consistent in their losses this year. The Lady Buffaloes were led by Addie Deal who scored 12, foreshadowing what would be a big night for the Deals from Stanley County.
Late in the game, the Wolverines put away the Buffaloes as Katie Allbee got hot finishing with 18 capping off a big second half. With the win, the Wolverines improve to 3-2 while the Lady Buffaloes still search for their first win of the year.
In game two, it was clear the boy’s game would be an all-out track meet with both teams playing a press and getting up shots early in their respective possessions. The Wolverines got out to a 4-0 lead, but keen defense from Stanley County flipped the momentum. The Buffaloes stretched out a 10-point lead, but the Wolverines were simply not going away. Jared Weisbeck scored 13 in the first half with three made threes, but the teams continued to trade buckets to the half where Stanley County led 38-31.
In the second half, sophomore Jack Deal had to fill a very big role for Weston Prince who was sent off the floor after inadvertent contact drew a technical foul. Deal filled the role masterfully scoring 10 points in both halves. Paxton Deal also made his mark on the game scoring 19 with a few stunning drives and finishes that brought the crowd to their feet.
The Buffaloes would go onto win thanks to both Deals, Eddie Duffy and Trevor Caldwell all finished in double-digits. The Wolverines had two double-digit scorers with Weisbeck finishing with 16 and Xavier Ritter scoring 11.
The Buffaloes improve to 4-0 and continue to build on their programs best start in school history. Herreid/Selby Area falls to 1-2.
