John Stiegelmeier Entertains, Honors, and Motivates

On January 10, 2026, legendary former SDSU football coach John Stiegelmeier spoke to 107 Special Olympics coaches and athletes at our 7th annual Unity Conference.

Stiegelmeier inspired all in attendance with his anecdotal humor and message. “Coaches use their title to build people up, and that’s what you all do. I am honored to be here.” Said Coach Stig. He also shared personal experiences and life lessons from his four-decade-long career, which have shaped his view on coaching and life.

New President/CEO Nick Moen also shared his personal story and his vision for the future of SOSD. “Coaches, we are here today to honor you and to thank you for your commitment to this movement and our athletes.”

In addition, sports clinics and coaching credits were offered in Bocce and Cornhole.

According to Spearfish Peaks coach Deb Alickson, “It was a great conference with good information shared.”
