The Walworth County Commissioners and their appointed jail committee held discussion with Dean Marske of HKG Architects on the proposed jail during their April 15th meeting. Marske has been working with Walworth County Sheriff Josh Boll and the jail committee to re-design the plans for the jail.
After lengthy discussion on the costs of hiring Henry Carlson Construction as project manager, Commissioner Duane Mohr made a motion to hire Marske and HKG to continue the design work on the jail at a cost of $30,000.
That motion was approved unanimously by the commissioners.
Highway
Walworth County Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan told the commissioners that due to recent moisture, he is extending spring load limits to at least May 1st.
A motion was approved to hire a seasonal part-time mower and truck driver at $24.00 an hour.
A motion was approved on gravel bids, “piggybacking” off Hyde County.
Register of Deeds
Walworth County Register Deeds Brenda DeToy gave the commissioners her monthly report, along with updates on Jail Medical, Welfare Reporting, Pesticide Testing, Poor Liens, and Medicare Part D.
Landfill
Walworth County Clean-up Days will by Monday, May 11th through Saturday, May 16th. Hours will be 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, and 8am to 11:30am on Saturday the 16th.
States Attorney
Walworth County States Attorney Sarah Malsom updated the commissioners on open meeting laws from the State Attorney General’s office.
News Business
Under New Business, Commissioner Jim Houck asked for some more information regarding a county sales tax. Walworth County Deputy Auditor Deb Kahl explained what the commissioners’ options are.
Kahl said the sales tax could only be used to lower owner-occupied taxes.
The next Walworth County Commission meetings are set for May 6th and May 20th.
