At Wednesday’s (May 6, 2026) regular meeting of the Walworth County Commission, jail committee member Dan Heil read a letter to the commissioners regarding the goal of the committee.
Heil told the commissioners that since the letter was composed, the committee has talked with Walworth County Sheriff Josh Boll and been enlightened about facts and figures regarding what is being spent on transport and housing.
Jail committee member Lyle Perman wrapped up the conversation.
Also at Wednesday’s meeting,
- The commissioners passed a motion for a yearly raise of $1.45 per hour and back pay from January 1st to present for Walworth County States Attorney Sarah Malsom;
- Heard from Jared Gross with Grow South Dakota, who talked about how the funds the County grants to the program each year go directly to projects that help citizens in Walworth County, from housing weatherization to furnace and water heater replacement, and housing and business loans;
- Walworth County Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan said he would be lifting load limits on Thursday, May 7th;
- Sheriff Boll gave the March report and talked about tracking inmates in treatment;
- The commission approved the Local Emergency Operations Plan and heard Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen’s update on the public safety communications tower and local funding for the project. Jensen said he has applied for a Homeland Security Grant for the tower mechanical shop to house the equipment, and he plans to visit with tribes and other entities in his quest to secure local funding for the project.
- Director of Equalization Greg Pudwill discussed a letter from the Department of Revenue stating that the County is required assess property value at 85% sales ratio or better.
