The hourly substitute teacher rate paid by the Pierre School District and the cost for milk at breakfast or lunch will both be increasing in the 2026-27 school year.
Business manager Travis Dovre says the hourly substitute teacher rate will increase by one percent, but the half-day and daily rates will remain the same as they currently are.
When it comes to school meals, there’s good news and bad news. Dovre says there will be a slight increase in the cost of milk.
Dovre says the good news is that after a few years of price increases, the cost of meals in the Pierre School District will not be going up next year.
The Pierre School Board unanimously approved the changes this week (May 11, 2026).
