The Pierre School Board has approved the District’s budget for the upcoming year (2026-27).
Business manager Travis Dovre says the budget shows a 13.8% increase over the current year’s budget, largely due to the theater and wrestling room expansion project at T.F. Riggs High School.
Dovre says the total budget is just shy of $43 million.
Dovre says the tax levies for the upcoming budget are lower than the current levies.
The Pierre School Board approved the 2026-27 budget during their meeting this week (June 8, 2026).

May 15, 2026:
The preliminary 2026-27 budget for the Pierre School District shows a 13.8% increase over the current year’s budget.
Business manager Travis Dovre says the budget jump is due largely to the theater and wrestling room expansion project at T.F. Riggs High School.
Because the expenses to pay for the theater and wrestling room expansion and a new chiller system at Georgia Morse Middle School are paid out of the Capital Outlay Fund, Dovre says that category has a proposed increase of 111 percent– totalling $10,909,344– for next year.
Dovre says the proposed amount to be spent on salaries, benefits and other General Fund items is 1.4 percent lower than this year’s amount.
The Pierre School Board will approve the 2027 budget at an upcoming meeting.
