Post 8 Legion Varsity went on the road to take on Bismarck for two on Wednesday night, and left with a split before their tournament coming up this weekend.
In game one, Post 8 would outlast Bismarck 8-5 after bookending the ballgame with strong offensive innings. Tripp Lindekugel would double in the third inning to score a run followed by a Will Eilers triple that would also drive one in. Post 8 would score three runs in the first three innings to put them somewhat comfortably in front. Two more in the fifth would pad the lead even further, however, Bismarck would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to tighten everything up.
A quick answer back by Post 8 in the sixth would help them cruise to the 8-5 victory thanks to Eilers, Hudson Stoeser, Jackson Goodman and Carter Schiefelbein each picking up two hits apiece.
On the bump, Hudson Shaffer would earn the win for Post 8 giving up just five hits in his outing that lasted four and one-third.
In game two, it would be all Bismarck as they would win 12-2 to split the night’s doubleheader.
This weekend, Post 8 will play three scheduled games Friday through Sunday in the Dakota Classic. Tomorrow night, they will play Yankton Post 12 at 2:30 PM. Saturday morning, they will face off with SOS Heating and Cooling before wrapping the weekend on Sunday with Kindred Post 117.
