June 3, 2026:
Unofficial results have Todd Johnson winning the race for mayor of Pierre in Tuesday’s (June 2, 2026) election.
Johnson received 2048 votes to incumbent Steve Harding’s 1750 votes. Johnson will be sworn in at the July 7, 2026, Pierre City Commission meeting.
Additionally, with Johnson ascending to the mayor’s position, he has to resign from his current spot on the Pierre City Commission. According to City Administrator Kristi Honeywell, Johnson and current city commissioners will select someone to appoint to fill the vacant commission seat until Pierre’s election next year.
With the form of government the City of Pierre has, the Mayor’s position is part-time. Day-to-day operations are coordinated by Honeywell.
