The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will temporarily close a six mile stretch of South Dakota Highway 248 in the Kennebec area, starting Monday (Aug. 17, 2026).
SDDOT discovered damage to an existing box culvert underneath Highway 248, approximately two miles east of Kennebec.
The damage requires a short-term closure between the towns of Kennebec and Lyman. SDDOT anticipates the temporary closure will be in place for two to three days. Motorists are advised to use Interstate 90 as an alternate route. Local traffic will be allowed to use Highway 248, however they will not be able to travel through any active work areas.
The temporary closure of this six-mile segment on Highway 248 will allow SDDOT crews to complete repair work at the box culvert site.
