When humans encounter pollinators such as bees, birds and butterflies out doing their thing, we typically leave them alone. That’s often not the case when people encounter some of the less “friendly” looking pollinators like wasps, bats, beetles and ants.
When it comes to wasps, South Dakota State University Extension Urban Entomology Field Specialist Dr. Amanda Bachmann says do…not…panic.
Bachmann says like many insects, wasps would prefer that people left them alone.
In addition to being pollinators, Bachmann says wasps prey on pesky insects in your garden.
One source of information for people with questions about pollinators or fall lawn and garden topics is the SDSU Extension Garden Hotline. The free service connects local gardeners with experts who offer research-based advice on lawn care, plant diseases, insect pests, trees and weed identification.
