The Pierre Governors had a quick turnaround after they opened the season Tuesday with a split against Sioux Falls Jefferson. They hosted Watertown for another two-team doubleheader Thursday that saw two more exciting games.
In game one, the Arrow boys jumped out to a quick lead of 1-0 then 2-0 after Roger Carranza quickly got behind the Governor defense to give them the early advantage. However, much like Tuesday night’s game against the Cavs, the Govs settled in nicely and held their own. Watertown would stay stout defensively over the course of the match and hold on for the 2-0 victory. The boys dropped to 0-2-0 on the year and have another quick turnaround coming this weekend.
The Governor Girls had a carbon-copy finish from Tuesday to Thursday as they won by a score of 3-1 again. It was Lexie Hillmer who got the Govs on the board with not one but two goals to give Pierre an early advantage. Watertown would find the net, but a penalty kick score from Myah Fravel allowed the Govs to cruise to another 3-1 win to improve to 2-0-0 on the year.
The quick turnaround for both squads will come tomorrow as they hit the road and head to take on Sioux Falls Christian. The boys will look for revenge after they fell to Christian in the first round of the postseason while the girls look to stay perfect on the year.
