MOBRIDGE, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers suffered their first home loss of the season Friday night, falling to Rapid City Christian 35-6 in their Homecoming Game and home opener.
The Tigers and Comets battled through a tightly contested first half, with both defenses making plays and multiple turnovers keeping either team from finding much rhythm offensively. The game remained locked at 0-0 until midway through the second quarter, when Rapid City Christian finally broke through with a long touchdown pass downfield to take the first lead of the night.
Mobridge-Pollock continued to battle defensively, but the Comets carried their momentum into the second half. The Tigers opened the third quarter with a three-and-out, and Rapid City Christian quickly capitalized, driving down the field and finding the end zone to extend its lead.
From there, the Comets’ offense came alive, continuing to make big plays throughout the second half. As the game wore on, the effects of attrition began to set in for the Tigers, allowing Rapid City Christian to take advantage and create separation on the scoreboard.
Despite the final score, Mobridge-Pollock showed plenty of fight, particularly during a defensive battle in the opening half. Multiple Tigers stepped up and battled throughout the night, but Rapid City Christian ultimately found its rhythm and pulled away in the second half.
The Comets had several players make significant contributions, but quarterback Peyton Glenn led the charge. Glenn delivered a strong performance and helped guide Rapid City Christian’s offensive attack as the Comets scored 35 points after being held scoreless for much of the first half. His performance earned him Burger King Player of the Game honors.
Mobridge-Pollock will look to regroup and get back in the win column next week when the Tigers travel to take on Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
