SIOUX FALLS – Central South Dakota players dot all-state teams in all three classifications in the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association 2022 Boys All-State Teams, announced Tuesday.
Pierre junior Lincoln Kienholz was named first-team all-state in Class AA after being named as a second-team player in his sophomore year. Kienholz averaged just under 20 points per game, with 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
Winner junior Blake Volmer earned a first-team all-state honor in Class A as he helped the Warriors make the state tournament. Volmer averaged 16.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists a game. Lathan Prince, a Stanley County senior, was named to the third team. Prince averaged 17.5 points per game and hit 62 three-pointers for the Buffaloes, who came one game short of making the state tournament. Also making the second team was Rance Harrison of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, the state’s second-leading scorer at 28.7 points per game.
White River’s Joe Sayler, Grant Luikens of Potter County and Keshaume Thigh of state runner-up Lower Brule all made the first team in Class B. Sayler led the state in scoring at 29 points per game and in three-pointers made with 79, also hitting 80 percent of his free throws. Luikens averaged 21.5 points and 7.9 rebounds. Thigh scored 18.7 points a game and had a Class B-best 79 steals. Seniors Dylan Marshall of White River and Cooper Logan of Potter County made the second team. Timber Lake’s Hank Kraft, Kaden Foxley of Platte-Geddes and Lower Brule’s Brian LaRoche Jr. made the third team.
Mitchell post player Caden Hinker was named as the AA Player of the Year. Dakota Valley’s Isaac Bruns, a 24 point per game scorer, received that honor in Class A. For the second straight year, Kalen Garry of two-time state champion De Smet is the Class B Player of the Year. Garry was also named as the Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year for South Dakota.
