PIERRE, S.D. Since 2022, the City of Pierre has made improvements throughout its park and recreation system, adding new amenities, updating existing facilities and creating more welcoming and accessible spaces for residents and visitors. Work completed between 2022 and 2026 touched parks, athletic facilities, trails and public spaces across the community. Projects ranged from new pickleball courts and a dog park to resurfaced tennis courts, new playground equipment and accessibility upgrades. Many of the improvements were made possible through community partnerships, grants, donations and collaboration with local organizations. City crews also completed portions of the work in-house and found opportunities to reuse materials, helping stretch project dollars while continuing to improve public spaces.

- Accessibility and Safety: An ADA-accessible sidewalk connection was added near the former bandshell at Griffin Park, improving access between the parking area and other recreational amenities. Protective fencing and netting were also installed near Hyde Stadium to help protect children using the Boys & Girls Club playground from balls leaving the stadium.

Together, these projects reflect the City’s ongoing commitment to investing in Pierre’s quality of life while making the most of available resources.
