SIOUX FALLS – Central South Dakota wrestlers were among those winning championships in the South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association State AAU Youth Wrestling Tournament March 25-27 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
Tots champions included two from Winner: Karsten Storms at 53 pounds and Lucchese Helkenn at 57 pounds. Iven Meyer of Chamberlain was fifth in the Tots heavyweight class.
61-pounder Asher Spoehr of Pierre was the champion in the Bantam division, with Lyman’s Owen Petersek finishing fourth. Rhogan Robbins of Winner won at 44 pounds. Champ Jager of Mobridge won at 76 pounds. Lyman’s Hooper Sazue was third at 83 pounds and Leo Lingemann from Lyman was fourth in the Bantam heavyweight class.
In the Midgets division at 89 pounds, Kyan Bartels of Winner was third and Ty Larson of Chamberlain finished fifth. Kimball’s Boston Myers was the champion at 134 pounds. Axel Steele of Chamberlain was fourth in the Midgets heavyweight class.
Gable Uhrig of Pierre won at 77 pounds in the Novice division. Apollo Willuweit of Winner won at 64 pounds.
In the Schoolboy division, 75-pounder Brody Neilan of Chamberlain finished fifth. Rylan Robbins was third at 95 pounds. Carter Konechne of Kimball won at 120 pounds.
Alex Oedekoven, who had a steady season for Pierre Governor wrestling, won at 113 pounds in the 16-and-under division. Chance Carda of Pierre won at 182 pounds, with Lyman’s Isaac McManigal taking fifth. Kellan Hurd of Miller won at 132 pounds.
Pierre’s Abbi Lewis won at 132 pounds in the girls high school division.
In the junior division, there were two winners from Pierre: Chase Carda at 152 pounds and Lucas Chamberlin at 170.
Girls pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade winners included Quinlee Cleveland of Gettysburg at 33 pounds and Riley Thompson of Kadoka in the heavyweight class.
