Public interest for South Dakota’s Mount Rushmore Fireworks Celebration was apparent with a total of 125,787 ticket requests received. Lottery winners were announced Friday, June 12.
Approximately 7,500 participants will be able to attend the event with tickets through the random lottery system administered by Recreation.gov. The lottery was open June 5 through June 8.
“The excitement for the Mount Rushmore Fireworks celebration has been tremendous,” said Governor Kristi Noem. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful state, and we’re excited that President Trump will be a part of it.”
The show will celebrate those that defend our freedom and protect our communities, including a special tribute the healthcare workers who have led the fight against COVID-19. A crew of 30 pyrotechnicians and specially trained highline operators will skillfully ascend the Memorial to install the pyrotechnics at pre-established firing locations.
Programming for the event will include flyovers from the United States Navy’s Blue Angels, the South Dakota Army National Guard, the South Dakota Air Guard and Ellsworth Air Force Base. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display over Mount Rushmore. The display will be choregraphed to a musical soundtrack with an Americana theme paying tribute to the faces on the monument and celebrating our American spirit.
“Now more than ever, South Dakota and our nation need something to look forward to, and we can’t think of a better event than celebrating our nation’s independence at Mount Rushmore National Memorial,” said Jim Hagen, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial will be open to ticket holders only on July 3. The Memorial will reopen on July 4 with normal hours.
National Parks Service conducted an environment assessment in preparation for the event, and that assessment can be found here. Details about South Dakota’s Mount Rushmore Fireworks Celebration can be found at www.TravelSouthDakota.com/RushmoreFireworks.
