A 32 year old man from Fort Thompson convicted of Larceny has been sentenced in federal U.S. District Court.
Tanner Shields must spend 21 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred June 21, 2021, in Hughes County. Using a stolen pick-up truck and trailer, Shields stole a skid steer and then removed the serial numbers from the equipment.
This case was investigated by the Sioux Falls Police Department, the Tripp County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services.
Shields was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
