SIOUX FALLS – After the Oahe Capital girls broke a scoreless tie early in the third period, Brookings scored three straight goals Friday to win 3-1 in the first round of the SDAHA Girls Varsity State Tournament at the Scheels IcePlex in Sioux Falls.
Kiersten Miller scored her first goal of the season 2:22 into the third period to give the Capitals the lead. Then, Kinzey Grendler tied the game for Brookings with 3:26 remaining before Savannah Barber scored only 12 seconds later for the Rangers. Taryn Richter gave Brookings a two-goal advantage by scoring with only 45 seconds left.
The Capitals (7-9-1) will play a consolation game at 11:30 AM on Saturday.
