High school rodeo contestants competing at state finals in Fort Pierre this weekend; Hoping for spots on South Dakota’s national team

Fort Pierre and the Stanley County Fairgrounds are hosting the 74th annual South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo this week (June 13-18, 2023), with performances continuing through Sunday.

Mackenzee Wheelhouse from Pierre is one of the contestants.

Swade Reis from Reliance is in three events and brought three horses.

Winners will receive awards ranging from belt buckles to saddles. They’ll also get a spot on South Dakota’s team at the National High School Finals Rodeo next month (July 16-22, 2023) in Gillette, Wyoming.

People can purchase admission passes for individual performances or for the entire event.
