Pierre Post 8 picked up two solid home wins versus Huron Thursday night to get back to .500 on the year and improve their season record to 14-14.
In game one, Huron struck first picking up three runs in the first inning. The lead would not last long, though, with Pierre jumping on the Tigers for five runs in the second inning. Sutton Sonnenschein delivered the big hit for Pierre in that inning with a three-RBI triple. Interestingly enough, with as quickly as the offenses got to work, the arms shut them down equally as fast. The 5-3 second inning score would hold as Pierre would win the game by that score thanks to Bridger Babcock’s solid work on the mound. Babcock picked up the win, and Post 8 carried momentum into game two.
The second game of the evening was all Pierre, winning by mercy rule after a 10-run fourth got them out in front 13-0. Hudson Stoeser singled to score one run, Sonnenschein’s single drove in two runs then Will Eilers got in on the action driving in a run with a single. Tripp Lindekugel also singled to drive in a run and was followed by Hudson Shaffer’s hit by pitch that brought in one. Another walk via Carter Schiefelbein would bring in a run before a fielder’s choice off the bat of Carter Templeton brought in another.
Small ball from Post 8 assisted them to the big win, and now they enjoy the holiday weekend before getting back to action Monday night. They will go to Watertown to take on the Arrows for a 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM doubleheader.
