JULY 27, 2023:
A Sioux Falls man has been identified as the person who died Saturday evening (July 22, 2023) in a two-vehicle crash 18 miles west of Kadoka.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates a 2020 Hyundai Elantra was driving the wrong direction (west) in the eastbound lane of I-90. At about 9:39 p.m. the Hyundai crashed head on with a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country that was driving east in the eastbound lane of I-90 near mile marker 134.
The driver of the Chrysler Town and Country, Isaac Thompson, age 24, sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Philip Hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The passenger in the Chrysler, Mahra Wick, age 22, sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Rapid City hospital. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Hyundai, Samuel Vining, age 31, sustained fatal injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
I-90 was closed at mile maker 131 and traffic was detoured for about two hours until 1 90 reopened.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

One person died Saturday night (9:39pm, July 22, 2023) in a two-vehicle crash 18 miles west of Kadoka.
The names of the persons involved have not yet been released.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates a 2020 Hyundai Elantra was driving the wrong direction, west in the eastbound lane of 1-90. At about 9:40pm, the Hyundai crashed head on with a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country that was driving east in the eastbound lane of I-90 near mile marker 134.
The 31-year-old male driver of the Hyundai received fatal injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The 24-year-old male driver of the Chrysler Town and Country sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Philip Hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The 22-year-old female passenger in the Chrysler sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Rapid City hospital. She was wearing a seatbelt.
I-90 was closed at mile maker 131 and traffic was detoured for about two hours until it reopened.
