AUGUST 26, 2023, UPDATE WITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM ASSOCIATED SCHOOL BOARDS OF SOUTH DAKOTA:
Pierre School Board Member Dan Cronin has been named (Aug. 3, 2023) the Associated School Boards of South Dakota’s Outstanding School Board Member of the Year award for 2023.
The Outstanding School Board Member honor is presented to a South Dakota school board member that embodies the spirit of school board leadership in recognition of his or her dedication to the advancement of student learning at the local level.
Cronin has served on the Pierre School Board since 2017, including three years as President, as well as being a teacher and elementary principal for many years prior to joining the school board.
During his time in education, Cronin has been driven by his desire to know the school and everyone in it are doing everything within their means to provide the interventions and services necessary to give every child in the district the best opportunity to succeed.
At the school board level, he has helped guide budget priorities emphasizing student achievement, recognizing student and staff successes, encouraging his board to continue their learning through budget retreats, supporting quality staff hires and training and avoiding micromanaging while maintaining high expectations for the district.
“Dan’s commitment to the Pierre School District is exemplary,” ASBSD Executive Director Dr. Douglas R. Wermedal said. “He has spent countless hours serving the students, staff and community of Pierre and his leadership has undoubtedly enhanced the education in the district.
“We’re thankful for the opportunity recognize his hard work.”
AUGUST 15, 2023:
A Pierre School Board member has been selected as the Outstanding School Board Member of the Year in South Dakota.
District Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says Dan Cronin was honored at a joint meeting of the Associated School Boards of South Dakota and the School Administrators of South Dakota earlier this month (Aug. 2023).
Cronin says he appreciates the education team in the Pierre School District.
Cronin shared an email he received from Riggs High School graduate.
Last month (July 2023) Cronin was sworn in to his third, three-year term on the Pierre School Board.
