ONIDA – Colton Brady helped make sure Stanley County Football did something that no Buffalo team had done since the last decade.
Brady rushed for 196 yards and three long first-half touchdowns Friday as SC won its first season opener in six years, 42-20 over Sully Buttes.
Brady’s yards came on only eight carries, as his touchdown runs were of 85, 64 and 31 yards. Brady did not play after the early part of the second quarter due to a shoulder injury which isn’t believed to be serious.
Broch Zeeb threw a touchdown pass to Barret Schweitzer and also rushed for a score. Ehran Cantu gave the Buffaloes their first points of the season by recovering a Sully Buttes fumble in the end zone in the first quarter. Cash Richardson rushed for 77 yards on 12 carries.
Gavin Barber had all three Sully Buttes touchdowns on a scoring reception from Wes Wittler, a 93-yard kickoff return and a touchdown run. He rushed 10 times for 91 yards.
Stanley County had not won a season opener since 2017 and had not won a season-opening game on the road since 2010 before Friday’s win.
