GETTYSBURG, SD – Amy Teresa Cordell, 56, of Gettysburg, died Monday, October 16, 2023, at her home. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family before she was granted her angel wings as she ended a valiant four-year battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gettysburg, with visitation one hour prior; Fr. Joseph Holzhauser will be presiding. Amy Teresa Frost was born on August 22, 1967, in Hoven, South Dakota to Clarence and Anna Marie (Hartung) Frost. She attended St. Anthony’s Parochial School and graduated in 1986 from Hoven High School. During her school years, she was a member of the flag corps with the award-winning HHS band.
She married her high school sweetheart, Todd Cordell, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hoven on September 5, 1987. Together they built a family, starting with their seven daughters and one son, that continued to grow with the addition of spouses and grandchildren.
Amy’s life was dedicated to her children and grandchildren, and all aspects of their lives, which is evident by a glance at the walls of her home that are covered with photos of her family. Having been raised on a farm, Amy loved being outside and growing flowers. Each spring she was given Mother’s Day gifts of flowers from her family, which she used to decorate their home and add color to her flower bed. Her dad had a seed corn business, and Amy loved harvesting sweet corn from the Frost family fields to process each fall for the kids to enjoy.
Holidays were a special time for Amy, especially Christmas, and she loved to make big family dinners to celebrate, often insisting on doing them without help. Her children talked about the special cookies she would make during the holidays that were some of the best presents they got every year.
Her hobbies were shared with her family. She loved being outside, and evening walks with her children were a regular family activity. She was always surrounded by her “little angels” with a collection of angel figurines that each had a special meaning. She loved being with her children and even helped babysit for families in town, she also seemed to have an old soul and loved spending time with elderly friends. She was very independent, rarely asked for help, and raised her family to step up and assist wherever and whenever needed. She was a devout Catholic, loved visiting with family and friends, and was a genuinely happy spirit which made her an amazing wife, mom, grandma, and friend.
Amy’s life will forever be cherished by her husband, Todd, of Gettysburg; seven daughters: April (Alex) Johnson, Tiffany (Clark) Weinert, Paige, Hope, Sasha, Mia, and Clare Cordell; one son and honorary daughter, Joshua (Nicole) Cordell; 11 grandchildren: Emma Briscoe, Owen, Nora, Theo, and Lucy Johnson, Elijah, Jeremiah, and Liam Weinert, Hadley and Baby Cordell, and Ally Payne; siblings: Dave, Jack (Jeauleen), Mary, and Tim Frost; mother and father-in-law: Ron and Sandy Cordell; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Twila (Dave) Griese, Terry (Ivette) Cordell, and Clayton (Stacey) Cordell.
She was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Anna Marie Frost and one brother, Tom Frost.
