RAPID CITY – Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Washington are set to meet Saturday for the championship after semifinal victories Friday in the SDHSAA Class AA State Volleyball Tournament at the Summit Arena at The Monument.
Harrisburg, aiming for a second consecutive state title, earned its 45th straight win with a semifinal victory over O’Gorman. Washington outlasted Jefferson in a five-set thriller.
Semifinals
Harrisburg def. O’Gorman, 25-21, 25-13, 19-25, 25-21
Harrisburg (29-0) returned to the championship match, thanks to another enormous match by Gabi Zachariasen, who had 26 kills, an ace and 16 digs. Zachariasen has 40 kills in the Tigers’ first two matches of the state tournament. Kennedy Kokenge had 11 kills. Josalyn Samuels served five aces, had 51 assists and had 11 digs.
Makenzie Walsh led O’Gorman (18-11) with 10 kills.
Sioux Falls Washington def. Sioux Falls Jefferson, 18-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12
Washington (28-3) made its second championship match in three seasons after a spirited, well-played five-set win. Cate Legel had 22 kills, two aces and eight digs for the Warriors. Kaelyn Snoozy added 13 kills.
Ella Kvernmo led five players for Sioux Falls Jefferson (24-3) in double-digit kills with 19.
Consolation
Watertown def. Aberdeen Central, 25-21, 25-19, 25-23
Watertown (26-7) had more kills and better play at the net than Aberdeen Central. Emery Thury led the Arrows with 13 kills, one and a half blocks and 18 digs. Emily Tisher had 12 kills.
Alivia Miller scored 10 kills for Aberdeen Central (14-13).
Brandon Valley def. Sioux Falls Lincoln, 25-20, 25-18, 25-23
Brandon Valley (16-14) had a balanced attack and strong serving, with 10 kills each for Abby Gruber and Jayaunna Stroh. Lexi Gawarecki and Alli Gawarecki had three aces each.
Jazmen Kutey scored 10 kills for Lincoln (14-12).
