FORT PIERRE – Sam Sahly scored twice in just over a minute in the third period Friday to extend what had been a one-goal lead and help Sioux Falls East defeat the Oahe Capital Boys 5-2 in the Capitals’ home opener at the Expo Center.
Jarron Beck’s third goal of the season with 38 seconds left in the first period tied the game at 1-1 for the Capitals.
Ben Vermeer then scored 7:25 into the second period and Sioux Falls East (3-2-0-0) led 2-1. Sahly then scored at 9:40 of the second, then again just 1:13 later.
Corbin Beastrom scored the other goal for the Capitals (1-2-0-0), who outshot Sioux Falls East 33-30. Spencer Anderson stopped 25 shots in the Oahe goal.
