FT. PIERRE, S.D. – The Oahe Capitals shutout streak ended over the weekend. After a 7-0 win over Huron on Friday (Jan. 19, 2024), the Capitals hosted the Brooking Rangers on Saturday and Sunday. The Rangers dominated the two game series winning 8-3 on Saturday and 5-1 on Sunday.
In Saturday’s setback, the Capitals were outshot 31-16 as the Rangers broke open a 2-2 tie with a 6 goal onslaught in the third period. Jacob Kahle had a hat trick for Brookings to lead the charge while Barret Schweitzer scored twice and Devin Dodson added goal for Oahe. Brookings had 4 power play goals in the contest as the Capitals were in the penalty box on 16 different occasions during the game. Spencer Anderson stopped 23 shots in goal for the Capitals.
In Sunday’s loss, the Capitals were tied at 1 after the first period before Brookings broke through with 3 unanswered goals in the second period. Keller Herman scored the lone Capitals goal on an assist from Dylan Dodson but it wasn’t enough as the Rangers out shot the Capitals 30-19.
With the 1 and 2 weekend, Oahe slipped to 4th in the league standings with a 7-5-1 league record and 15 points, one point behind Sioux Falls West.

FT. PIERRE, S.D – The Oahe Capitals Varsity Girls Hockey team dropped a 4-3 verdict to the Mitchell Marlins on Sunday (Jan. 21, 2024). The contest was back and fourth throughout before Mitchell scored the game winning goal by Tristin Zimmer at the 7:35 mark of the third period. Cameron Larson scored the Capitals lone goal in the first period on an assist from Ava Lanninger. The Capitals got a pair of goals in the second period from Brylee Kafka on assist from Emily Nemec and Lanninger and Micah Buffalo on an assist from Addison Hunsley. The Capitals outshot the Marlins 23-21 in the contest as goaltender Sopia Peschong made 17 saves.
Oahe sits in 4th place in the league standings with a 6-3-1 record and 14 total points. The Capitals girls have a game later today in Brookings. The game is a rescheduled game that was postponed last weekend.
