PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor boys and girls wrestling squads both came away with tournament victories on Saturday. The Governor boys tallied 234.5 points to win the Les Tlustos Brookings Invitational by 44 points over Madison, who came in second. It’s the first time Pierre and Madison, a new member of Region 3A this season, have competed in the same tournament this season. The Govs had two individual champions on the day with Rowdy Menning at 138 pounds and EJ Boutchee at 215. Gable Uhrig placed second at 106, as did Bode Minder at 113 and Alex Oedekoven at 132. Meanwhile the Governor girls won yet another tournament as they competed in the Lee Wolf Invitational at Aberdeen Central High School. Four bracket champions paced the Governors in rolling up 206.5 points, besting the host Golden Eagles by 32 points. Standing atop their respective podiums were Shaylee Speck at 100 pounds, Dani Ringstmeyer at 126, Kezrey Benning at 138, and Abbi Lewis at 152 pounds. Lexie Hillmer, Ireland Templeton and Brylee Pelle added runner-up finishes as well. Miller/Highmore-Harrold also competed and placed fifth out of 18 teams with 83.0 points, led by Dana Wallace’s runner-up finish at 120 pounds. The Pierre teams host Yankton Tuesday for Senior Night at Riggs High Gym.
