Playoff basketball brings us some of the best finishes, and that’s exactly what we were treated to in the North Central versus Herreid/Selby Area first round Regional matchup last night. In a game that never got too far away from either team, it required a last second bucket by the Wolverines to move on to their next test. This game went back-and-forth all night, teams trading baskets along the way. At the end of the first half, the Wolverines held a two-point advantage, leading 16-14. It was a defensive battle in the first half, but both offenses found their footing in the second scoring 28-points a piece. Neither team was ever able to stretch a lead out to double-digits, both teams just had answers. The biggest answer for the Wolverines was Jordan Rossow, who scored 21-points, was the only Wolverine in double-digits, and she just happened to hit the game winning shot in the final seconds. Tied at 42, Rossow delivered the dagger to advance and give her team the 44-42 victory.
The Thunder were led by two double-digit scorers, Alaina Dosch with 13 on 45% shooting, and Amree Vander Vors who finished with 18 and five 3’s. But HSA was able to hold on at home and advance to the next round where they will go on the road to take on the Highmore-Harrold Pirates on Thursday night. We will have coverage of that game on KMLO and streaming on www.DRGnews.com/KMLO with Spencer Gosch.
