It was déjà vu at Larkspur Landing as hundreds of Grey Zabel’s family and friends gathered, only this time Zabel was officially a first round draft pick and was in the building to celebrate it. Zabel was busy signing autographs, taking selfies and posing for pictures as so many proud Pierre locals patiently waited their turn to share the moment with the Seahawk.

Zabel took the phone call from the front office of his future team at home with his immediate family, but wanted to make sure he got everyone in on the celebration. Like Thursday night, the draft was playing on a large screen at the center of the room However, unlike last night, the focus wasn’t on the screen but was directed at the 6’6, 330 lb. NFL lineman. Zabel was gracious enough to stop and talk to everyone who wished to speak with him, took plenty of pictures, and also made sure everyone stayed refreshed. About an hour after he arrived, he made a quick trip back at his home where someone was nice enough to leave him two pallets of Busch Light. Zabel loaded up the truck beds and brought them back to Larkspur for those that were in attendance. A true class-act.
Zabel’s career in the NFL will begin with rookie mini-camp, but he was sure to cherish the time with everyone he grew up with and played in front of for so many years.
